Pearls On A Necklace – SOTA Adventures in W6/CT. Strung along the Angeles Crest Highway (SR 2, Los Angeles County, California), which runs through the San Gabriel Mountains, on the stretch between the Pasadena / Glendale area the south, and the Apple Valley / Victorville area to the north, lie more than 20 SOTA listed summits.  Most are 6 to 8 point summits. Proximity to Los Angeles, relatively easy access and beautiful terrain, similar to east slope Washington and Oregon Cascades, make this a “tourist delight” area.  On 3 separate days, between October 31, 2014 and November 4, 2014, I activated five (5) of these SOTA summits.  This report is #3 of 5.

Halloween eve had to produce a treat...and not a trick - the "easiest" 8 point SOTA Summit in the country?  I was almost embarrased to Activate this summit, as it involed less than 1/3 mile "hike", with an elevation gain of 125 feet +/-.  None the less, it is a sanctioned and listed SOTA Summit of "W6/CT Land".

To our utter amazement and pleasure, we ran into N6MKW, Mike, and his beautiful Golden Retriever, Roxy - also activating Table Mountain at the same time.  I had seen Mike's great SOTA postings on various CT Land Activations, and wanted to contact him.

All of my ontacts were on 20M and 40M, and included stations in Colorado and california.  As usual, I used the KX3 with the 20M / 40M inverted V linked dipole, strung from the 20 foot carbon fiber fishing pole.

All too soon it was time to leave, as we were headed to Circle Mountain, W6/CT-071 for our next Activation of the day.
