Baty Butte is a 4-point summit on BLM land up the Molalla River Corridor in Clackamas County, OR. It hadn't been activated in a while and had no writeup so after the fires of 2020, there was some uncertainty about access and condition.
I am happy to report that access is excellent, road and trail. Make your way to (44.96104, -122.41135) and proceed up the Middle Fork of the Molalla River. In 8.2 miles at (44.98765, -122.27268), stay left, ascending Joyce Lake Road. In 2.5 miles at (44.98471, -122.23531), take the left onto Lost Creek Meadow Road. Continue 4 miles to park (44.99366, -122.21193) at a decommissioned Cat track (or dozer line). This is the start of the hike.
The hike starts on the old dozer track for 0.3 miles, keeping right at the dip. You will shortly cross the Baty Butte Trail. Take a left and proceed about 0.4 to 0.5 miles to the SE ridge. When you cross the ridge, take a left and start up. There is some remnant user trail along the ridge and lots of smaller tree fall. The up is about 1000 linear feet and 400 vertical feet. Steep going.
The top is a ridge of rock and small trees, so careful footing is a must. Traverse right off ridge (north side), as the left (south side) is a steep drop. You will find several good activation points.
Hiking route attached in SOTA Maps and SOTL.AS. There were maybe 8-9 trees down on the trail, all manageable.
