McKenzie River Area
We are excited to host the 5th annual Central Oregon Summit to Summit Party. The one-day event will take place in the McKenzie River drainage; however, participants can choose to operate from anywhere they choose. As in past years, we will use a simple, directed net to maintain efficiency and allow all participants fair time on the air.
There plenty of summits to choose from, many are unactivated. Randi, N7OLE and I will be on Wildcat Mountain CM-082, as it is pretty centrally located and a shorter hike. There are some drive-ups in the area; however, be aware that recent reports of drive-ups are outdated, and hiking may be involved since the Forest Service seems to be closing many roads in the area.
We are planning to camp Friday through Sunday at the Ice Cap Campground off of Highway 126, site 19. Since this isn’t a campout per-se, we have no expectations but feel free to join if you like.
Like past years, we will ask participants to check in to the net when we start the party at 11 am PST (1800 GMT). Please listen for any calls you can hear and note them down so you can quickly work those you hear when your turn on the net comes up. If you have any questions about how we operate, feel free to ask at check-in. We will use 146.56 as our primary frequency and 146.54 as a backup. If there are operators who want to build up their 2M SSB points, we can discuss running a second net on 144.200 after the primary net closes.
Please add your callsign to this Google Sheet, along with your intended summit. It is helpful to make a printout before the net so you can note calls and signal reports for the operators you hear during check-ins.
Hope to hear you on the air.
