Trail contains no technical obstacles
The easy access to this hill is off of forest road FS-6081 (you’d want a high clearance vehicle) which was not passable for us. It leads to a spur road that goes almost to the top (this is also blocked to vehicles by windfall and some erosion). Good thing we had a plan B – which was to follow the PCT - Trail #2000, south from the nearby Crest Horse Camp.
A bit south of Cannon Beach there is this easy walk up a logging road. The sign at the gate indicates that hiking access is permitted. Starting in 2018 the landowner is requiring permits for access - see https://nncpermits.com/Permits/PermitDetails.aspx.
You'll find the logging road and gate near 45.863, -123.95950 about 0.6 miles south of Tolvana Park. Don't block the gate of course, and proceed up the logging road.
Park at the Marple Mountain Sno Park overflow area which is on the south side of SR83. Plenty of parking room in the non-snow months.
Follow FR8312 to the summit which is about 4 mi one way. Easy hike up an old logging road. The summit is a site of an old firetower but is now used as a USGS Mt St Helens monitoring site. Enough room at the summit for an EFHW. Good vistas of Mt Adams but St Helens is obscured by the forrested summit.
Park at the open gate where FR54 and FR5407 cross which is just west of the Trapper Creek Wilderness area. The TH is just across from the parking area where the Wilderness Permit box is located.

I activated Holland Point, W7O/WV-017, on 13 May 2016. This is typically an easy hike to the top of the 1542 m (5057') Cascade foothill south of Cottage Grove, OR. The directions are given below. However, there can be obstacles early in the season before crews have cleared downed trees from the roads. That was the problem I ran into. There were downed trees not only on the gravel approach road, but on the paved through route that gets there. There were patches of snow as well.
Wind Mountain is a great hike with fantastic views near Hood River Oregon. It is on the Washington State side of the river so your will need to cross the toll bridge to the Washington side if you are coming from Hood River, OR.
The toll is $1 I think and is well worth the price of admission for Wind Mountain. You will pass the parking for Dog Mtn on the way to Wind Mtn if coming from Hood River. Dog Mtn is another popular hike to a SOTA summit.
Crown Butte is one of several laccoliths that protrude from the prairie south west of Great Falls. It is the smaller cousin of the nearby Square Butte, which figures so famously in Charlie Russell paintings. The butte is primarily owned by the Nature Conservancy, as a preserve for native prairie grasses. The summit grasses have been well protected from civilization by the ring of surrounding cliffs.
