""Bug Hill"" SOTA Activation

I did this one as it is very close to home and easy to get to the top. Not a very scenic hill but a nice walk. As I have said before I can't leave a summit unactivated especially this close to home. I am not sure that I will do this one again, unless I am looking for some S2S opportunity with limited time.

Talona Mountain, Georgia | November 2014

Summit

This is an easy drive-up summit about sixty miles north of the center of Atlanta. There's even a deck and a folding chair for enjoying the views from this summit.

About 3.6 miles south of the 282 and 515 intersection in East Ellijay, Georgia, turn east from 515 onto Talona Mountain Road. It's paved the 1.8 miles to the summit - turn left at the T at the top to find the best places to activate. There are trees around the perimeter of the summit for rigging antennas.

Cheaha Mountain, Alabama | November 2014

The high point of Alabama is an easy drive-up summit - Cheaha Mountain is located in an Alabama State Park about 16 miles south of I-20. At Exit 191 head south on Highway 1 and follow the signs to Cheaha State Park, turning south on 281 and then keeping west onto 600G.

There's a substantial resort in the park with a restaurant, motel, store and available camping. There's a $3 per person entry fee. At the summit is a stone lookout tower and museum - the museum has limited hours but the lookout appeared to be open at all times.
