Indian Mountain, north of Mount Hood, is a remote summit with great views of Mount Hood. It's quite a drive from Portland, but not too long of a hike - about 2 miles round trip and 500 feet of gain.

Get yourself to Wahtum Lake - driving directions can be found here: http://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Wahtum_Lake_Trailhead. This road to Wahtum Lake is paved and in good condition for any vehicle. More information on the trail here: http://nwhiker.com/MHNFHike08.html.

At Wahtum Lake, pass the 'parking lot' with a left turn onto a gravel road. The road past this point requires a high clearance vehicle or a very carefully driven passenger car. Go about one mile and stay right. Continue about 1.7 miles to a large open area with a green gate on the right - park here. (You can also hike the Pacific Crest Trail from Wahtum Lake to the summit of Indian Mountain - it's about eight miles round trip.)

Hike the road past the green gate and proceed past the small repeater station up the ridge. The beginning is marked by cairns but turns to a fairly well defined old road bed, and eventually to a trail to the summit. There are the remains of a lookout at the top with accessible trees for any kind of antenna you'd like to use.
