Here's a drive-up summit with a fire lookout (one you can rent) in Eastern Oregon. You might spring for a lookout reservation and enjoy being chased all day long - but you can also stay below te lookout on the road and let the occupants enjoy their solitude while you activate this peak.
Take Highway 295 south of John Day, Oregon for 11 miles. You'll pass through Canyon City and turn off to the west on NF-3920. You'll proceed about 5 miles and turn right and go the last 0.7 miles to the lookout. The road should be passable in a passenger car, but note that even with a GPS we found it a big challenging to navigate the roads in this area.
