It was great to meet club members at SEA-PAC.  I came back motivated to earn my first point! WV-095 (https://www.sota.org.uk/Summit/W7O/WV-095) is Mt Scott and has been frequently activated. It looked pretty straightforward and I had already cycled to the top a few years ago.

I rode my bike from my house to 205 bike path and exited at Otty Road.  Then straight up for a bit, and then a left takes you to the peak.  Asphalt all the way.  At base of tower I used 146.52 to make first two contacts, then hopped over to the Hood View ARC repeater to ask for help on simplex.  Back on 146.52 got remaining contacts to earn my first SOTA activation.  Woo Hoo! At the top they are building new houses which impedes a single 360 degree view.  I choose east facing for activation, but was hitting Scappoose and Camas even though I was facing east.  From the top you can see Mt Hood, St Helens, Rainer and Adams, but you have to view them from separate positions due to house construction.

I'm now eye-ing some unactivated easier summits in Eastern WA.  Again it was great to meet the club members at Pizza last weekend.  I plan to continue with some of the easier summits until I gain more experience. Going to try and activate a peak near Tri-Cities for Field Day. See http://www.pnwsota.org/blog/k7atn/2012-october-09/mount-scott-or-clackamas-county-jan-2012 for some details on how to get there.

All the best,
