Willamette Valley and Puget Sound Summit-to-Summit (S2S) Parties
Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 18:00 UTC (11am local)
Frequency: 146.58-fm

This event is a perfect way to introduce new hams to SOTA. Invite hams from your local club, bring your kids, neighbor, or even invite curious hikers on the summit to make a contact!

Each party will convene at 1800 UTC on 146.58Mhz - fm, rain or shine. A central "net control" may gather a list of stations on SOTA summits for a directed "net" to help all contact all the others. We will earn activation points and S2S points.

When we are all done, the Willamette Valley folks can gather at the McMenamins Hillsdale Pub to meet in person, enjoy refreshments, and share SOTA stories.  We will aim for a meeting time of 3:30pm local. The pub is located at 1505 SW Sunset Blvd, Portland.

To 'claim' your summit, post an alert for our QRV time of 1800 UTC, 23/09/2017 (note the Euro date format!) and a frequency of 146.58-fm with a comment "Willamette Valley S2S Party" (or "Puget Sound S2S Party") on www.SOTAWatch.org (you'll need to register if you haven't).

For gear, a HT with 5 watts and an rubber duck should allow you to work a few stations. However, a small whip, a car mag mount on a cookie sheet, J-pole, Slim-Jim, MFJ "Long Ranger" or even a yagi will really help you get out. Also, remember to open your squelch to hear weaker stations. SOTA rules require battery power and not operating in the vicinity of a vehicle. Hiking with your radio is the goal.

Afterwards, be sure to document your S2S contacts in both your Activation Log and in the Chaser/S2S Log on www.SOTAData.org.uk.
