Long distance hiker recently into ham radio and just started doing SOTA
I do at least one long distance(100-250 mile) hike every year and doing SOTA along the way only makes sense. I have an IC705, CHASs17 antenna with the Icom tuner and PowerFilm Lightsaver Max for doing QRP. I’m hoping to get Mt. Adams and some of the other local summits activated in the next year or so.
Interested in ham radio, trail bikes, hiking, and jeeps.
Using a K2 and vertical.
I'm an experienced hiker/ backpacker and just recently obtained my amateur radio license

Got into SOTA in summer of 2022 after getting my general ticket. SOTA via MTB is what interests me the most. Been climbing mountains and/or been tramping about the outdoors literally since my parents hauled us about in kid-carrying backpacks (Papoose) so pretty much my entire life. Don't do as many glaciated peaks as I once did, the years will do that, but I still get out there. Do a bit of Hot Spring hunting as well.
Anyway I thought it would be a cool idea to take a Radio with me up some of these peaks, come to find out that's already a 'thing!' So here I am! :-)
I design and oversee testing of Railway Signaling systems across the globe in my professional life.
Well, I don't have any stories to tell quite yet as I am newbie to SOTA, but I finally decided to go out and drag a radio to the top of a peak or two, and as such just picked up an IC-705 for that purpose! So, stay tuned and I will update this after I climb some peaks! :-)
“Wherever you go, there you are.” I enjoy outdoors, summits, and amateur radio.
More to come.

I am a SOTA newbie living in north central Idaho with several SOTA and POTA sites accessible as day trips. I have a K3 and am investigating portable FT8 equipment (e.g. QDX) for light weight activations.
I am a retired physician (pathologist) and have been a ham for 25+ years. I was the advisor for the University of North Dakota Student Amateur Radio Association for 10 years.
I enjoy the outdoors and mountains of Montana to New Mexico. Now that I am retired I hope to start doing those activities I have only read about!
