I am new to Ham and SOTA, I just passed my General Exam and hope to start doing some HF Activations in the very near future. I'm a 22 year veteran of the Army and currently live in Hillsboro, OR

I'm planning Mt. Adams on June 26th and hope to get on the air with my Yeasu FT-3DR

First Licensed in February 1987. I've operated portable HF since the 80s,In the Midwest then on Gulf Coast. Since 2018 I added portable Satellite operations (FM and Linear). This is the first place I've been with mountains. So it adds opportunities as well challenges especially being places with mostly flat terrain.

I enjoy being outdoors so always been been the fox or rover rather than the chaser. Also, I'm more interested in operating rather than paper chasing. So while I'm glad to help operators get a needed grid etc. I'm rarely interested in awards or certificates myself. The enjoyment for me is seeing how far I can get a signal with the least amount of power and the most basic equipment.

I am a retired engineer with a love of the outdoors

I am a SOTA newbie living in north central Idaho with several SOTA and POTA sites accessible as day trips. I have a K3 and am investigating portable FT8 equipment (e.g. QDX) for light weight activations.

I am a retired physician (pathologist) and have been a ham for 25+ years. I was the advisor for the University of North Dakota Student Amateur Radio Association for 10 years.

I enjoy the outdoors and mountains of Montana to New Mexico. Now that I am retired I hope to start doing those activities I have only read about!

I was a tech from 2024 to 2021. A few years ago my life was turned upside down due to an injury in my brain. No longer able to work or do many of the activities I did before, I came back to ham radio to fill my time. I was enjoying what I could from the hobby as a tech. Due the injury, studying for my general was very slow. I want to learn more about SOTA in our area.

Update May 2021 - I recently set a goal to study for my general exam. Many days, I could only study for 1/2 hr each day. I spent a couple months slowly going through the exam questions and learning as much as I could absorb. One day in March of 2021, I began taking practice tests. Some days I could not study or take the tests. But I pushed through. Steadily, my practice test scores began to climb. Each day, I focused on the tests only. Taking breaks in between. Taking naps to rest my brain. I continued to push through. March 17th I woke up in the morning and took a practice test. I was feeling somewhat confident, but studying and taking practice tests were hurting my brain. So I felt it I needed to put my energy into the real test. I scheduled an online exam for the following day. I practiced a bit in the morning and rested as much as I could leading up to the test. I took the real test and got all questions correct. None of my practice tests did I get all questions right. It was a very emotional moment for me. What might be easy for some, was much more challenging for me.

Getting my general ticket has now opened many more doors for me to enjoy the hobby with the limited physical and mental abilities I now have.

My areas of interest are

Continue using Winkeyer and CW Decoder software to communicate with other CW Ops.

SOTA - I have learned there are many drive up (close) summits. I began chasing and activating.

POTA - I love getting out of the house and using my gear in parks.

Checking in on local and wide area nets

Contesting is not something my brain can handle, but I will throw my call into the hat and hopefully help some others.

I would love to do as many drive-up activations as I can. I can no longer hike :( , but I see there are sites that I can reach via vehicle.

Sea to Summit, thats me!

Hanging around more on summits, especialy those w/ views.
Currently using a Wouxun HT @ 5W or a TYT @ 10W w/ one of Ed Fong's roll-up J-pole antennas.
I'm hoping to promote activations using local ham repeaters.
I have an APRS ap that might help as well.
Building a five element Yagi for better range.

Former electrical engineer now retired. I live in Battleground Washington which is about 30 minutes north of Portland Oregon. I love backpacking and ham radio so SOTA is perfect for me.

No activities yet ~ just starting out. Would like to do the actual hiking with other hikers as well as making contacts with hikers from home.

I've been a licensed ham for about 35 years, with a rich background in ARES/RACES county- and state-level leadership, as well as founding Manager of the SOTA W8M (Michigan) Association. I reside in central Michigan.

I was the founding Manager of the SOTA W8M (Michigan) Association for about eight years, now retired from that role.

I am a U.S. Army veteran. I served from 1998 to 2002. Since then I have been a carpenter, E.M.T., Firefighter and now I am in law enforcement. I received my technician license on July 2, 2022. I activated my first summit today (10/05/2022). I look forward to activating a lot more in the future. I got into Ham due to a forest fire in June 2022, where all lines of communication were cut off and I had no idea on what was going on around me- until I remembered I had a ham radio to listen in on. I was hooked after that. 73's to all! KN6UZB

Looking to be an activator and in the future a chaser for my son. I am currently using a Baofeng UV-5r, however I will be installing a Yaesu ftm 200 dr in my jeep soon.

I am a newly licensed ham and a late bloomer to the sport. I'm 65 years old and have a great love for hiking and the outdoors. The SOTA activities are icing on the cake as they combine both mt interests into one activity.

I like to activate summits and use both have a Yaesu FT2D handheld at 5 watts and an Elecreft KX3 for the other bands. I have a portable 4 element yagi antenna for 2 meters and have received good signals up to 91 miles so far.. I'm in rural Montana so there are few that know of the sport. Makes it more challenging to activate.
