There are a nice bunch of summits north of Carson, Washington - this one is a near drive up - as long as you have a high clearance vehicle.

From Portland, take I-84 to Cascade Locks and cross the river for one dollar. Or take Washington 14 out from Vancouver past the Bridge of the Gods, through Stevenson and continue east on 14 to turn north towards Carson on Wind River Road about four miles past Stevenson.

After 5.7 miles on this Wind River Road (or Highway), turn right on Old State (you may see Old State earlier - turn at the second) and look for Panther Creek Road to turn turn left after just 0.10 mile. Panther Creek Road will turn into Road 65. You'll head north on this paved forest road about 9.7 miles to a significant four-way intersection (Four Corners) where you'll turn right onto gravel.

Travel on this road 1.5 miles to where it turns right and there's a gate on your left. Note that this gate is the way to Red Mountain-W7W/LC-036, another worthy summit.

After this, the road turns into high-clearance territory. From the Red Mountain gate, go 0.3 miles and turn right. Continue south 2.3 miles to another road on the left. Continue up 1.8 miles to the road end. The summit is about 100 yards up a steep slope from here.

There's a downed log to sit on, and perhaps you'll have a view or better yet, dry weather when you are there (we got soaked).
