Red Sleep Mountain is the highest point in the National Bison Range near Dixon, Montana. The range recently opened back up from being closed last year due to Covid. Just last week, the high loop road was opened which gives you access to the trailhead. An entrance fee of $10 needs to be purchased at the park entrance.

Getting there: Turn south approximately one mile east of Dixon, Montana onto the 212 highway. A few miles ahead on the right is the entrance to the park. Take the one way loop trail until you reach the summit where there is ample parking space and restrooms. Off to the right is the obvious trail to the top of the mountain, an easy quarter mile walk. This is practically a drive-to summit. Picnic benches are at the top along with a small communications tower that seemed to not be transmitting.

Great views and a few places to strap my extendable fishing pole gave me a good high wire antenna and decent reception. I forgot to bring my bungee straps to tie the fishing pole to the metal stake in the ground so I used two cloth masks I had in my pocket. It worked. Had to think on my feet.  I got 10 contacts in half an hour and would have stayed for more but the weather turned on us and it started snowing. I was able to complete this summit for two previous activators, K7MTD and WW7D.
