Don't know

1470 is an unnamed summit near Granite Falls, WA. It is an easy 3 mile walk (6 mile R/T) up a good gravel road. Around 1000' of gain. This is a good candidate for a mountain bike trip. Some nice views of Pilchuck near the top.

Directions: From Granite Falls take Menzel Lake Road for a few miles until you come to the gated road at 48.03461, -121.91469. The gate may be open, but this road is only open to non-motorized use and the gate may be closed at any time (there are posted signs with this information on the gate). There is room for several cars to park without blocking the gate. Don't forget to display your Discover Pass.

WW7D and I originally planned to hike in from the north by driving down Scotty Road to a trailhead. Be advised that this is not a viable route - there is a gate on Scotty Road (gate was open) with a sign that says 'restricted area, authorized personel only'. The road does cross some private lands. There are tons of 'no parking' signs all around this gated area.

The walk is very straightforward. There are a few turns, shown on the map below. I have also posted a track that you can download from SOTLAS. The road enters the AZ so there is no need to bushwhack to the true summit unless you feel like it. There is a short spur road that heads toward the summit and is a nice spot to set up HF. AT&T and Verizon both had good service on this summit. We did not try VHF but I suspect it would be fine (no towers that we noticed on the summit). HF was great and the noise floor was low. The bands were in very good shape and we had good runs on each band, and worked some DX on 12, 15 and 17.

It was an unusually warm day - nearly 60F on the 29th of Dec. As we were walking back down it almost felt like a late summer evening.
