2520, OR | May 2021

Summit:
W7O/CC-089

Take Mill Creek Rd off of Highway 22. Once you go through the gate travel roughly 4.5 miles till you reach Wind Creek. Take that left at (44.968056 -123.503611). You can somewhat follow the path by watching my You tube video of the trip. It is a bit blurry but should help with navigation. https://youtu.be/88NWG_YNq7o.

Bald Mtn, OR | May 2020

Summit:
W7O/CC-011

Bald Mountain has been a great activation in the past for me. Still is just is a little more difficult. The way before is not accessable now due to Hancock who owns most the area keeps there gates closed and only allows non-motorized access. Easist way to aproach now is via Falls City on Valsetz Road. follow Valsetz Mainline for roughly 7.5 miles. Remember this area is closed during fire season. After roughly 7.5 miles you will find 1500 road on the left at 44°49'21.73"N 123°32'2.15"W (44.822703° -123.533931°). Follow this road for about 3 miles and will come down a steep hill.

Mill Creek Ridge, OR | July 2018

Summit:
W7O/CC-036

Taking Gooseneck Rd off of Highway 22. Same approach as nearby Dorn Peak W7O/CC-013 http://www.pnwsota.org/blog/ki7emx/2017-december-10/dorn-peak-oregon

Once you leave pavement on to gravel, follow road for 2.4 miles. You will come to an 3 way intersection at 44°59'16.96"N 123°30'32.75"W (44.988044° -123.509097°). Turn left here. If you are going to Dorn Peak take the right - it will take you all the way to the summit.

Little Hebo, OR | July 2018

Summit:
W7O/NC-032

Easiest way to get there is from highway 22. From there take SW Little Hebo Rd. (NF-2234) - near milepost 14 and next to the Suislaw National Forest sign.   45° 5'45.80"N 123°44'38.52"W.

Travel on this for about 5.5 to 6 miles. The road actually travels right near the summit. GPS works well for navigation on this one. On the summit there is plenty of room to setup antennas in several large laydown areas.

If you want you can get to Mount Hebo W7O/NC-006 from here relatively easy.

Chandler Mountain, OR | November 2018

Summit:
W7O/CC-044

Chandler Mountain is near the old Valsetz town site and pond (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsetz,_Oregon). This is the first summit I activated back in 2012. To get there, head to Falls City 10 miles South-West of Dallas. Once in Falls City, head through town crossing the bridge. Continue untill you reach Chamberlain Road this will turn in to Valsetz Road which will turn into gravel. There is a gate which is closed during fire season. From the gate follow the road for about 12 miles.

Scar Mountain, Oregon, KF7SEY

Summit:
W7O/WV-018

Scar Moutain is a old lookout site. No trail to the summit which required some bush wacking. Start by taking Parish Road off of Highyway 22 east of Detroit at 44°31'31.88"N 121°59'40.09"W. Follow this for about 2.25 miles. Turn right onto NF-1164 at 44°31'19.71"N 122° 1'49.04"W for about 2.5 miles. Then turn left on NF-1161 at 44°33'2.95"N 122° 2'38.65"W. Follow this for 4 miles. Turn left at 44°33'56.79"N 122° 6'26.54"W. The peak is on your left. After I went left I parked on a wide spot on the road less then a quarter mile in.

Unsucessful Activation Ranger Butte, Or | Aug 2016

Summit:
W7O/CM-093

Take NF-4660 from Cascade Lakes Highway. This road follows around west side of Davis Lake. Access is a closed road, peak is easily seen as you approach. Closed road  that is overgrown but easy to follow takes you in a spiral around the butte. After roughly 1.5 miles the path becomes inaccessable due to manzanita. I tried to bush whack but decided to call it quites within 200 ft of the summit.

Royce Mountain, Or | Aug 2016

Summit:
W7O/CM-046

This is an easy drive up 6 pointer. Take highway 58 east then turn off on Cascade lakes National Scenic Byway. After a few miles turn left on NF-4672(Royce Mountain Loop) 43.5499 -121.8594. Continue for 4.5 miles then turn right at 43.5172 -121.91358. The last portion of this road is rough and would recommend SUV's only to make the summit. Once at the end of the road the true summit is roughly 200 ft. which is where I operated from. End of the road is still within the activation zone.

Mosquito Peak (Peak 1960), OR | July 4th 2016

Summit:
W7O/CC-102

This is an easy summit to get to. Can get there from Falls City but its is easier to come in from highway 410 near Logsden. Use Big Rock Creek Road to access. This is also on private timber land and is closed during fire season. I will upload a google track in the download section for help. The name came from the summit area. The summit is in dense forest and during activation Mosqutio's were horrible and we forgot repellent. Needless to say we were in a hurry to collect chasers. Thanks to all the chasers that came to my aid.

Boswell Peak (Peak 1985), OR | July 4th 2016

Summit:
W7O/CC-099

I decided to activate this one after looking at it for a long time. This peak is somewhat out of the way on timber company land. Roads are normally open except during fire season. After activating, I decided I wanted to name this peak after a ham that recently became a silent key. Bob Boswell, W7LOU, was an inspriation to new and old hams. He was an elmer to many inculding myself. He also was the founder of the R.O.A.D's group(Radio Operators Association of Dallas) in Dallas , Or. He will be missed by many.
